Shot these headshots about 15 days ago for my friend Judah Travis. He used to book me on behalf of Perkins Coie law firm, but he recently decided to move on and is currently enjoying a summer off. I think that's one of the best things we can do for ourselves sometimes - switch things up. I wouldn't be where I am today if I hadn't left my newspaper desk job in Indiana and taken a chance on Seattle almost five years ago. Many people were critical of my decision to leave the stability of a good job during the recession. I was good at what I did and even enjoyed it sometimes, but wasn't happy working nights and weekends. My supervisors wouldn't throw me a bone once in a while and I felt very isolated and cut off from everyone. One day I ran into my favorite college professor, and he asked how the job was going. I told him I'd resigned and was headed to Seattle at the end of the summer and he says," Good for you. Switching things up is the best thing I've done for myself over the years. Good for you. That's brave, and will get you to where you want to go." Lots of people settle into jobs and never do what they want to do or are never in the situation to do it, and I'm glad Judah has that figured out.
